The install procedure is straightforward and depends on the target operating system. In any case, a product code will be necessary to run the application. You can obtain a 30 days trial code or purchase a non-expire licence from the download and shop area, respectively.

Windows

Valid for Windows 98, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7

Run the WirisDesktop-windows-xxx.exe and follow the instructions. A shortcut will be created in the Start/Programs menu.

Linux

Tested with Fedora Core 7, Ubuntu 7.10 and Suse 10.3.

The Linux version is a zipped file and you do not need root privileges to install and run it. You can unzip it anywhere and execute the WirisDesktop.bin script to start the application.

unzip WirisDesktop-linux-xxx.zip
cd WirisDesktop
./WirisDesktop.bin

Now you can drag the WirisDesktop.bin to any suitable part in your Desktop.

Mac OS X

Valid for Leopard (Mac OS 10.3.9 or superior), Tiger (Mac OS 10.4), Panther (Mac OS 10.5) and Snow Leopard (Mac OS 10.6). Architectures ppc and intel.

The Mac OS X version of WIRIS desktop is distributed as a dmg image disk. You can open the image disk and drag WIRIS desktop to the Applications folder. Actually, it is possible to run WIRIS desktop directly from the dmg image disk or drag it anywhere (no necessarily to the Applications folder).

Notes. It is recommended to upgrade Java to 1.5 when possible (tiger and panther). For running under leopard it is strictly necessary to install update 9 for Mac OS 10.3.

WIRIS desktop Linux installation as root

In order to have a clean installation, it is better to unzip WIRIS desktop into a non-writable but public folder like /usr/local or /var/opt.
